About me
Koh Yamakawa is a Taiko artist, composer, and educator based in Berkeley and the San Francisco Bay Area in California. He started his Taiko journey in 2009 with the Dublin Taiko Group and has subsequently played with Columbia Taiko, New York Taiko Aiko Kai, and Jiten Daiko.
Koh is the founder and lead instructor at Berkeley Buddhist Temple Taiko and founded Club Hachijo, an Oakland-based group focused on practicing the style of Taiko found on the island of Hachijo. He has led workshops for groups like Oakland Taiko and Sakura Kai as well as taught at the Inter-collegiate Taiko Intensive as part of Jiten Daiko.
At present, Koh performs as a solo artist and, in his off time, is a PhD candidate in experimental condensed matter physics at UC Berkeley.
